Asian Universities Chess Championship 2018
26 May – 2 June 2018, Tagaytay City, Philippines
The City of Tagaytay under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, Asian Chess Federation and FIDE have the honor to invite all National Chess Federations in Asia to participate in the Asian Universities Chess Championship from 26 May to 2 June 2018 at the Tagaytay International Convention Center in Tagaytay City, Philippines.
The Asian Universities Chess Championship is open to all affiliated National Chess Federations of Asia in Zones 3.1 to 3.7 of FIDE.

Men’s Individual Event
Women’s Individual Event
Men’s Team Event
Women’s Team Event
The Asian Universities Championship is open to all players registered by their national federation. Players should be aged 27 and under (born on or after 1st January 1991).
Each federation may send up to three teams including two University teams and one national student team. For a University team, all the players must come from the same University. The host country may send up to five teams. Teams shall be composed of 3 or 4 men and 3 or 4 women players.
For the individual championship, each federation may enter as many players as they wish.
Players should be students registered for 2018 towards a degree or diploma at a University or similar institute whose status is recognized by the appropriate national academic authority of their country and certified by the University Registrar.
4. Confirmation of Participation
Each federation should confirm participation by 25th March 2018 and advise how many players they will enter.
Registration should be received by 25th April 2018 by the Organizing Committee, with copies to the Asian Chess Federation and the respective Zone President.
5. Team Entry Fee and Individual Registration Fee
Individual registration fee for the Asian Universities Chess Championship is $100 per person. Entry fee to Asian Chess Federation is $25 per player for a total of $125 per individual player. The entry fee per team is $150. Deadline for registration is 25th April 2018. After that date, a late registration fee of $50 per person shall apply.
All payments should be made to the Organizing Committee.
6. Accommodation Expenses
Traveling costs shall be the responsibility of the participating Federation. Accommodation for one man and one woman player per country shall be the responsibility of the organizing committee in triple/quadruple rooms at the Character Resort Hotel.
For extra rooms, the cost is $60 per person per day in double rooms and $50 per person per day in triple/quadruple rooms including three meals at the Character Resort Hotel. Extra players may stay at other hotels of their choice but shall be responsible for their own transportation.
7. Deadline for Registration
By the deadline of 25th April 2018, each participating federation shall submit to the Organizing Committee the attached registration form with the following details:
a) Name of the participating University.
b) Name and initials of the Head of Delegation if any.
c) Name, digital ID photo and FIDE ID Number of each player.
d) FIDE rating of each player (latest FIDE Rating List)
e) Passport copy of each player.
f) Certificate from University Registrar
8. Tournament Regulations
The FIDE Laws of Chess shall apply. Draw offers are not allowed before the completion of Black’s 30th move unless by repetition of position rule or stalemate.
9. Dress Code
All Players are obliged to wear uniforms that represent their University, National Federation and/or the National Flag. Shorts, slippers, sun glasses, sport caps and revealing attire are not allowed.
10. System of Play
The tournament shall be run as 9-round tournaments for Men and for Women using the Swiss System or round robin depending on number of players. Players from the same team will not be paired together in the last round.

12. Time Control
The time limit is 90 minutes for the whole game plus 30 second increments per move starting from move 1. The games shall be played using electronic clocks. Default time is 30 minutes after starting time.
Team results will be calculated by the total scores of the top 3 players of a team. Ties shall be broken by the score of the top 2 players only and if still tied then by the score of the top player alone. If still tied, the tie shall be broken by tie break of the top player.
Individual results will be calculated by game points. Scoring is one (1) point for a win, half (1/2) point for a draw and zero (0) for a loss.
Individual ties shall be resolved in the following order:
a) Direct Encounter
b) Greater number of wins (forfeits counted)
c) Buchholz Cut 1
The top three Men and top three Women shall be awarded individual medals.
The top three teams in the Asian Universities Chess Championships for Men and Women shall be awarded trophies and medals for four players and one coach.
15. Visa Information
Please apply for visa at the Philippine consulate in your country. Those who need invitation letters for visa should advise the National Chess Federation of the Philippines Secretariats at email@example.com by 25 March 2018.
